Mark Meyers

Mark S. Meyers 67, of Platteville, passed away peacefully after a 10-year health challenge with Posterior Cortical Atrophy at Park Place Memory Care in Platteville, WI where he resided for the past 2 1/2 years.

Mark was born July 14, 1958 in Orange, CA, the son of Victor and Greta Meyers. As an infant the family returned to Marshfield, WI where Mark would spend his entire childhood years. He graduated from Columbus Catholic H.S. in 1976 where he excelled in football as a fullback (nicknamed The Barrel) and was All-Conference Back of the Year. He was united in marriage to Lynn Duckart on September 7,1990 in Marshfield.

Mark received his undergraduate degree from UW-Platteville in 1981 in civil engineering, crediting Professors Earl McCullough and Kenneth Buttry influential in his desire to further his education with the goal of teaching at the collegiate level. He obtained his Masters and PhD from the University of Cincinnati and worked at the US Army Corp of Engineers in St. Paul, MN before coming to UW-Platteville in 2000. He taught in the Civil Engineering Department from 2000–2017 serving six years as department chair, retiring as a Professor Emeritus.

 Mark was a humble man. He loved teaching and his hobby was his students. He served on the City of Platteville Water and Sewer Commission and Plan Commission. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1992, having been the Financial Secretary for many years while in Platteville. Mark and Lynn enjoyed traveling and visiting state parks.

 Mark is survived by his wife, Lynn; three children Matthew (Heidi) Meyers, Ryan Meyers (Raquel Rose), and Sara Meyers (Scott Milne); four grandchildren, Victor, Cadie, Penny and Marcus Meyers; sister, Vicki Meyers, brothers, Mike (Bonnie) Meyers, Tom (Sue) Meyers, and Steve (Sue) Meyers, sisters-and brothers-in-law Donna Meyers, Tom Duckart, Bob Duckart (Joan McCarville), and Deb Thompson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David, sister-in-law Holly Duckart and father and mother-in-law Wayne and Helene Duckart.

 The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice and Park Place for their exceptional care.

Visitation for Mark will be June 20, 11:00-1:00 PM at Melby Funeral Home and Crematory in Platteville. A memorial service and luncheon will follow. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to UW-Platteville Foundation (memo Mark Meyers CEE scholarship) or Grant County Humane Society.
