Richard “Sparky” Voelz, 71, of Mt. Horeb, formerly of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Sunday December 18, 2016. A visitation will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where at 7:00 pm. military rites will be accorded by VFW Post #5274 and American Legion Post #42. Rick was born on January 3, 1945 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Carl and Dorothy (Berry) Voelz. He was united in marriage to Ellen Tesch on May 12, 1984 in Madison, WI. She preceded in him death on March 26, 2010. Rick received his Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin. He worked at Uplands Counseling in Dodgeville, as well as, at UW-Platteville. Rick enjoyed Wisconsin Badger football and basketball and the Milwaukee Brewers. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his son, Evan (Terri) Voelz and their two boys, Christopher and Connor, of Potosi, WI; sisters, Pamela Voelz of Milaukee, WI; Melissa Voelz of Bonita Springs, FL; brother, Carl Voelz of Madison, WI; and cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Ellen.
