Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Jean M. and Ed W. Doench both of Potosi, Wisconsin, will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Friday, September 2, 2022 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Jean was born on December 9, 1945 in Platteville, Wisconsin, daughter of Earl and Leila (Laugeson) Beecher. Jean died on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at her home in Potosi. She was united in marriage to Ed W. Doench on July 9, 1977 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She went to school and studied cosmetology. She always enjoyed a good game of cards.

Ed was born on May 8, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of Edward R. and Lilliam M. (Beirman) Doench. Ed died on Friday, August 26, 2022 at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison. Ed served in the United States Coast Guard for 20 years, where he was a chief engineer. Ed retired in 1986. After retirement he worked at Orchard Manor, Lancaster, from 1987 – 1997, and then for the city of Platteville at Mining & Rollo Jamison Museum. He was owner of Doench Amusement and Circus Doench. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Potosi. He was a train enthusiast, volunteering mid-continental railroad murder since 1988. He was a member of the circus museum in Baraboo.

They are survived by their children, Edward (Bella) Doench, Michelle Weldon, Robert Doench, Scott Weldon, Ted (Sarah) Miller, Edward Weldon and Tim Miller; sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. They are also survived by Jean's sisters, Carolyn Rupp and Patsy Starrett, her brother, Dennis Beecher and Ed's sister, Rev. Delores Doench. They were preceded in death by their parents and grandson, Christopher.
