Obituary

Robert J. “Bob” Hammes, 74, of Lancaster, Wisconsin, formerly of Platteville, died on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. A family celebration of life for Bob will be held at a later date. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is assisting the family. Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Bob was born on January 25, 1948 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, son of George E. and Anna Mae (Althoff) Hammes. Bob graduated from Platteville High School and served in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War. Bob was a long haul truck driver for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. Bob was very talented and could fix or build whatever he put his hands on.

Bob is survived by his children, Dennis Hammes, Daniel Hammes, Paula (Kevin) Williams, and Robert “Robbie” Hammes; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jean Hammes, Mary (Kevin) Butson, and Kay (David) Hirsch; four brothers, Jim (Pam) Hammes, Joseph (Karen) Hammes, Mark (Beth) Hammes, and David (Robin) Hammes; sister-in-law, Bonnie Hammes; brother-in-law, Larry Trine and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna Hammes, sister, Joan Trine and brother, George Hammes, Jr.

I enjoyed the time I got to spend with Bob. He was my neighbor at the apartments and always willing to help with whatever was needed. Rest peacefully Bob!
