Dorothy L Coward Gobes, 102, of Platteville, died Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 6:45 AM at Edenbrook of Platteville, Wisconsin. A private family burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Pastor Mary Ann Floerke will officiate. Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Dorothy was born October 3, 1920, in New Diggings, WI, the daughter of Louis and Myrtle (Dent) McPhail. She graduated from Platteville High School. On June 3, 1939 she was united in marriage to Vincent J. Coward. For a short time, she worked for Burgess Battery Factory, but for most of her life she was a stay at home Mom. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards, watching sports, fishing, bingo and trips to the casino.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Dolores Fenner, Platteville, WI, Shirley Long, Pontiac, IL, JoAnn Pippin (Mike Campbell), Normal, IL and Margaret “Peggy” Wilber, Indianapolis, IN, sons, Robert (Joan) Coward, Rockford, IL and Jeff (Robin) Coward, Pontiac, IL, 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren and one step-great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 22, 1963, parents, 14 brothers and sisters, sons Frederick and James Coward, daughters, Carol Coward, Brenda Coward and Donna Wright, sons-in law Wayne Fenner and Bill Long and grandchildren Kathy and Fred Coward.
