Obituary
Hubert William Mester, 94 of Belmont passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023, at Edenbrook in Platteville, WI. Hubert was born November 7, 1928, to Bill and Helen Mester in rural Belmont. He attended Bethel Grove Country School and graduated from Belmont High School in 1947.
On June 9, 1949, Hubert married his high school sweetheart Joyce Clayton. They settled on the Mester Farm outside of Belmont, where they raised their 4 children. In 1977 Joyce and Hubert moved to town and their son Wayne took over the farm. Hubert worked as custodian at Belmont Schools. On his retirement he was honored with a quilt from the teachers and students whose lives he touched. One of the blocks featured a stuck zipper. Hubie fixed a lot of those over the 20 years at school. He loved to talk about the interesting stories from the young kids (and some of the teachers).
Hubie was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge in Platteville, past president of the Belmont Fair Board, and Alumni Banquet. Hubert and Joyce enjoyed their Chicago Cubs games, Cribbage Club, Anniversary Club, Belmont Sporting events, and loved to go dancing.
Hubert is survived by one daughter, Becky (Mike) Donahoe, Middleton and sons, Terry (Deb), Bill (Chris), both of Mineral Point; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Roger Clayton, Belmont; sisters-in-law Pauline and Jackie Clayton, both of Platteville and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
