Obituary
Barbara “Barb” Ann Splinter, 88, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the family farm in Platteville, Wisconsin. Barb was born on September 15, 1935, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Edward and Catherine Ames. She married Virgil Splinter on June 22, 1957. Barb loved to read and play the piano. She was a humble, loving person who devoted her life to her family and her faith. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. Even in her final month of life, her faith sustained her. She may not have realized it, but she was the glue that held the family together. She will continue to watch over all of us from heaven.
Barb is survived by her husband, Virgil; her children, Cathi (Brian), Tim (Diana), Cheryl (Tom), Ann (Gary), Janice, Rose, Michael (Magdalena), Therese, Karen (Tom), Danny (Cheryl) and Mark (Keti); as well as 28 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Barb is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Penny, sister, Marion (Harold) and brother, Fritz (Patti), brother-in-law, Jim, and sisters-in-law, Nellie, Marilyn, and Jane (Roger).
Barb was preceded in death by her son, Chris in December 2003, sisters and brothers-in-law, Marge (Allen), Mable (Vince), and Rosie, brothers-in-law, Eugene, Freddy, and John, and sisters-in-law, Rosalyn, and Marie.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 17, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. Father John Del Priore will officiate. The burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the Melby Funeral Home and Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a parish rosary at 3:45 PM. Visitation will continue Friday at the church from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM, where a rosary will be prayed at 10:40 AM.
