Obituary
Dale Roger Fatzinger, (89), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 6th, at his home in San Antonio, Texas. Dale was born on January 14th, 1935, in Allentown, Pennsylvania to Charles and Geraldine Fatzinger. He received his Bachelor's degree in geography from Kutztown State University in Pennsylvania. He earned a Master's degree in geography from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and a PhD in geography from Michigan State University. He began a teaching career at UW-Platteville in 1957. He remained at UW-Platteville for the next 45 years as an instructor, a professor, chair of the geography department, and finally as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. After his retirement, he and his wife, Susan, divided their time between Platteville and Neskowin on the Oregon coast. They made the 2000 mile drive back and forth for twenty years.
Dale enjoyed watching Chicago Cubs baseball and Green Bay Packer football. He also did research on family genealogy, finding that his ancestor, Valentine Fatzinger, came to Southeast Pennsylvania from Germany as a teenager in the 1700s and fought in the Revolutionary War. He also enjoyed cruises and traveling.
The highlights of his life were his beloved family. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan, sons Curt (Robin) Fatzinger, Eric (Colleen) Fatzinger, Grant (Maryna) Edwards, Gregory Edwards; grandchildren Jane (Fern) Rodriguez, Megan Edwards, Kate Edwards, Tom Edwards, Samuel Edwards, Katie (Jake) Kauffman, Kelsey (Christopher) Fatzinger-Schnurr, Kyle (Keri) Fatzinger; great-grandchildren Preston and Grace Fatzinger-Schnurr and Cameron and Carter Fatzinger; sister-in-law Patricia Fatzinger; brother-in-law Grant Pyatt (Candy); and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas Fatzinger. At his request, there will be no funeral.
