Marvin John Kettler, 82, of Platteville, WI died on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at his farm home surrounded by his loved ones. On January 29, 1942, he was the first born of Clinton and Delta Kettler of Platteville. Later in life, he became the older brother of 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Marvin recalled fond memories from the age of 9 to 18 of his involvement in 4H and FFA. He showed his father's angus cattle at the fairs and won many ribbons and trophies. Marvin graduated from Platteville High School in 1960 and continued his education by attending a short course in farming at UW-Madison. On February 25, 1967, he married Ilene Hanvelt at the First English Lutheran Church, Platteville, where they have remained long standing members. Marvin and Ilene raised 5 children on the family farm located on Baker Road, Platteville. His interests were not just farming, he loved to spend time fishing at their cabin in Bagley. Marvin served as a board member of the church council, was the treasurer for Harrison Township and a board member for the Farm Service Agency in Lancaster. Later in life, he worked at the car washes in Platteville and enjoyed driving his many Mennonite friends to town.
Marvin is survived by his wife Ilene, daughters, Sandy (Rodney) Skattum, Beverly (Glenn) Stagman and Roxanne (Kent) Harris, sons Curtis (Molly) Kettler and Burton Sherri Brunton) Kettler. Surviving siblings are Anita (Wayne) Carns, Sue Kettler, Faye Kettler and Phil Kettler; sisters-in-law, Ann and Bev Kettler. Marvin has 12 beloved grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Kasi Kettler and a grandson, Joshua Skattum,brothers, Wayne and Dan and sister, Karen Reimer, and nephew, Ben Kettler.
Funeral services will be at Noon, Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Brenda Crossfield will officiate. Burial will be at Whig Cemetery at a later date.
