Carl Coates

Carl H. Coates, 66, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at his home of natural causes.  Carl was born on May 29, 1957 in Cuba City, Wisconsin, son of Clinton “Bud” and Betty (Nolte) Coates.

Carl was united in marriage to Diane Kipper on April 21, 1979 at St. Clement's Catholic Church, Lancaster.  Carl served in the United States Army for three years at Ft. Polk in Louisiana. Carl held various jobs throughout his life.  He worked as a farm hand for many years, he drove bus for Stratton Bus and later the city shuttle bus for the city of Platteville, which he took great pride in.  This past year he drove the duck boats in the Wisconsin Dells.  Carl enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, tinkering things, a good game of euchre and dirty clubs.   Carl especially loved to spend time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Carl is survived by his wife, Diane; two children, Steven (Brianna Dietzel) Coates and Jennifer (Michael) Capps; three grandchildren, Christopher and Chloe Capps and Graydon Coates; four sisters, Dixie Hetzner, Bonnie Pederson, Penny (Terry) Johnson, and Ada (Larry) Olson; six brothers, Jim (Marita) Coates, Fred (Lynn) Coates, Kenny Coates, Johnny Coates, Chuck (Patricia) Coates, Edward (Carla Wick) Coates and Jerry Coates; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael; and sister, Faye.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 PM Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.  Chapel military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 42 and VFW Post 5274.  Memorials may be made to the Carl H.
