Obituary

Beverly Ann “Bev” Carpenter, 80, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at University Hospital, Madison. 

Bev was born on April 30, 1944, in Shullsburg, Wisconsin, daughter of John “Merile” and Annie (Leu) Short.  She was united in marriage to John Carpenter on November 26, 1966, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Darlington, Wisconsin. 

Bev attended beauty school in Madison.  While living in Madison she worked at Ward Brodt Music and H.C. Prange.  When John and Bev moved to Platteville, she worked at Drs. Park and later Leibfried Feed Services until her retirement. 

Bev was a great conversationalist and had many lifelong friends. She and John always enjoyed going on rides in the countryside.  Bev especially loved spending time with her granddaughters and great-grandson.

Bev is survived by her loving husband, John; two sons, John “Mike” (Toni) Carpenter, and Mark (Tammi) Carpenter: her son Michael (Emilie) and children Marcy and Eli.  Four granddaughters Alixe Carpenter, Samantha Carpenter,  Jessica (Nick) Probst and Jenna (Garret) Pettyjohn and great-grandson, Casen Pettyjohn; sister, Diane (James) Johnson; sister-in-law, Linda (Gary) Bawden and nephews and nieces.Bev was preceded in death by her parents, Merile and Annie Short and In-laws Bev & Merv Peacock.

Funeral services will be at Noon, Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.  Father Bernard Rott will officiate.  Burial will be at Union Grove Cemetery, Darlington.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

John, I'm deeply saddened to hear about Bev passing. I truly enjoyed her company whenever I saw her and she was so much fun on our trip to Branson. Heaven has gained a sparkling angel! My condolences to you.
