Obituary

Phyllis Cook, 86, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, October 31, 2024.  Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.  Pastor Mary Ann Floerke will officiate.  Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Phyllis was born on March 21, 1938 in Grant County, Wisconsin, daughter of Orville and Janice (Witzig) Austin.  She was united in marriage to Jerry “Cookie” Cook on June 16, 1956 at First English Lutheran Church, Platteville.  He preceded her in death on May 14, 2013.  Phyllis worked for the Platteville School District for many years at the high school in the kitchen.  She and her family for many years enjoyed their annual camping vacation up to Lake Arbutus in Hatfield, Wisconsin.  She liked to bake and was known for her sweet rolls and to get her hair done, which meant going on a casino trop with her friends.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Chris (Todd) Kirschbaum; grandchildren, Tracy (Steve) Polasek, Danny (Vicki) Lancaster, Shawn Lancaster, Robbie (Nicole) Lancaster, Kevin (Deb) Burbach, Andrea (Jon) Reynolds, Kristen Cook and Corey Kirschbaum; 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Donna Austin and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, “Cookie”, daughter, Shelly and her husband, Bruce Lancaster, son, Greg Cook, grandson, Austin Cook, brother, Jim Austin and sister, Elaine Welch.

I'm sorry for the loss of your Mother & Grandmother. She was a kind, fun loving person and I have many nice memories of her.
