Jerome Cullen

Jerome F. “Jerry” Cullen, 93, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, November 10, 2024.  Mass of Christian burial will be held at Noon, Saturday, November 16, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville.  Chapel military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 42 and VFW Post 5274.  Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until 11:30 AM, followed by a parish rosary at 11:40 AM.  The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family.  Memorials may be made Pro-Life Wisconsin in Jerry's memory.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Jerry was born on May 12, 1931 in East Dubuque, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Adaline Cullen.  Jerry was united in marriage to Patricia Welp on June 7, 1952 at Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Menominee, Illinois,  Pat preceded him in death on February 29, 2024.  Jerry graduated  high school from Loras Academy, Dubuque.  He served in the United States Army 1949 – 1953, during the Korean War.  Jerry farmed for Edward and Florence Welter and later moved to rural Platteville, where he farmed for many years on County Trunk D. While farming he was a mortar mixer at UW-Platteville, when the new chimney was built for the heat plant.  After retiring from farming Jerry worked as a rural mail carrier and drove for Commission of Aging.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville.  He was one of the founders of Platteville Farmer's Market.  He enjoyed a good game of cards, going to garage and farm sales, fishing and rabbit hunting. 

Jerome is survived by twelve children, Deb (Gary) Capps, Steve (Connie Jo) Cullen, Marge (Cliff) Tennessen, Betty (Ken) Johnson, Kenny (Joan) Cullen, Terry (Patti) Cullen, Andy Cullen, Missy (Rene) Kleinhanzl, Vicki (Dave) Steinbach, Jen (Kurt) Opgenorth, Tom (Melissa) Cullen and Jerry (Stephanie) Cullen; son-in-law, Bob Busch; 47 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Dalsing and Mickey (Jim) Reilly; sister-in-law,  Betty Cullen and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Pat, daughter, Connie Busch, grandchildren, Chris Capps, Tom Tennessen, Laura Tennessen, Abby Cullen and Ben Cullen, his parents, and siblings, Joe, Kate, Jack, Pat, Tommy, Lois, Danny, Bill and Helen.
