Obituary
Milton D. “Beefy” Place, 70, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Mercy Hospital, Dubuque. A celebration of Milton's life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where a visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the until the time of the memorial. Private family burial will be at a later date. A luncheon will follow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, to be dispersed to Milton's favorite causes. Milton was born on February 17, 1954, in Lancaster, Wisconsin, son of Milton and Betty (Kopp) Place, Sr. He was united in marriage to Bunita “Buni” Clark on September 27, 2008. He graduated from Belmont High School, Class of “73”. Out of high school he worked at Burnham Construction and later UW- Hospital, Madison. “Beefy” then went to work as a Craftsman painter for UW-Platteville for 26 years, until his retirement. Though he didn't farm after high school, “Beefy” was always a farmer at heart. He was a member of the Platteville Elk's Lodge. He enjoyed life and many activities, camping, fishing, a good game of cards, playing golf, gardening, refinishing furniture and especially going on road trips, where he always exclaimed “As long as I've got gas I'm not lost!”. He was a huge Badger and Packer fan, and as a young man enjoyed following the Brewers.
Milton is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Bunita “Buni” Place; five children, Charles Place of Boscobel, WI, Erin Lack of Tomah, WI; Leah Place of Montfort, WI, Shayna (Chris) Vitton of Fond du Lac, WI, and Joseph Place of Oregon, WI; nine grandchildren, sisters, Barbara Hanna of Oregon, WI and Sherry (Larrry) Klaas of Stitzer, WI, brother, David (Betty) Place of Fennimore, WI; as well as sister-in-law, Diana Brunow of Mosinee, WI; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Betty Place, his mother-in-law, Elaine Clark, sister and brother-in-law. LaVon “Bonnie” and Tom Walther, brothers, Donovan David in infancy and Curtiss Place, brother-in-law and best friend, Chet “Chester” Hanna, sister-in-law, Robin Place, and nephew, Tim Klaas.
