Modesta Winkler

December 22, 1932 - December 22, 2024

Obituary

Modesta Ann (Loeffelholz) Winkler, of Potosi, WI celebrated her 92nd birthday at her home on December 22, 2024 and then her celebrated her heavenly birthday as she entered the pearly gates later the same day.

Modesta was born in Dickeyville, WI, the 3rd of 11 children born to Frank and Anna (Wiegel) Loeffelholz.  After school, she worked at the Cuba City Hospital.  Shortly thereafter, she met who she said was “The love of her life” at a dance at Moonlight Gardens.

Modesta was united in marriage to Maynard Winkler on August 9, 1951, in Shullsburg, WI.  Family was the most important thing in Modesta ads she was blessed with 11 children.  Carl (Wendy) Winkler, Roger (Cris) Winkler, Maynard (Candi) Winkler, Leon (Traci) Winkler, Gerard (Kari) Winkler, Paul (Renee) Winkler, John (Cyndi) Winkler, Mary (Joe) Bendorf, Ron (Janet) Winkler, Anna (Thad) Reuter and James (Darlyn) Winkler.  Modesta loved babies and couldn't wait to help guide her 31 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.

Modesta was the original Google and knew all the tips and tricks to any problem or question you may have.  She loved to share about her faith in God and told everyone, that she met, about how they could have a close relationship with Jesus.  She prayed tirelessly morning and night for anyone and everyone.  Modesta's favorite book was the Bible and second favorite book was the church hymnal.  Her favorite job was being a housewife.  After moving to their farm, she added farm wife to her resume.  She would always say it was wonderful to wake up and already be at your job.  Modesta loved her farm animals, the big gardens she and Dad planted and her beautiful flowers.

Modesta was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Winkler, Sr., her parents, Frank and Anna Loeffelholz, her sons Roger Winkler and Leon Winkler, her grandson, Mitchell Warren, her great granddaughter Amber Bender, as well as her four sisters, Marietta Stietz, Celine Byrne, Merita Larson and Camella Wand.

Because of her belief that God so love the world that he gave his only begotten son, Jesus, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  We all look forward to our heavenly reunion one day.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville, WI.  Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Saint Andrews Catholic Cemetery in Tennyson, WI.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

The family would like to thank Grant County Hospice for their wonderful care of our Mother.
