Obituary

Rudolph “Rudy” J. Hahn, age 70, of Platteville WI died Thursday, January 30, 2025 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison from osteomyelitis health complications after several falls.  Rudy was born March 18, 1954, son of Martin C and Mary Dolores (Yirak) Hahn.  He graduated from Bloomington High School and Southwest Technical Institute, Fennimore. His engineer career at John Deere Works-Dubuque spanned 30 years where his forestry equipment field test analysis work took him from Douglas, Georgia to Ojai, California; from Laredo, Texas to Vancouver, Canada; to Panama City Beach, Florida.

In retirement, he divided his time between his A-Frame home in Platteville and his seasonal garage at River of Lakes Resort in Bagley. He enjoyed motorcycles, boats, vintage cars; and getting to know the unique characters he met in Speakeasies he frequented around Grant County.

Rudy is survived by a sister, Debbra Hanten, nieces and nephews. Also surviving is long-time friend, Linda Klang.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, an infant brother; sister Nancy Morrow-Dearborn; brothers Terrance Hahn and Bryian Hahn, a niece; and cats Bowser and Kingster.

Keeping with Rudy's wishes, there will be no somber formal service. Rudy's cremated remains will lie on the bank of the Mississippi River. Think of his wit and humor as you drive or boat along the river.

Melby Funeral Home and Crematory of Platteville is assisting the family.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.melbyfh.com.

Rudy was a character. Many times we solved the problems in this world after consuming 6 to 20 beers and numerous shots of Jim Beam Black. He was a good friend, very astute and the best alter boy to ever come out of bloomington, wi. I will miss him.

Rudy was truly one of a kind guy. He was a friend to everyone he met, whiling seemingly a private person. His sense of humor was in a class by itself. It was a pleasure to have work with and around him in the same department at Deere. May he RIP!!!

To The Rudy J. Hahn Family, We were so saddened to hear of your loss. We received a final text message from Rudy's phone on Friday evening. We will miss seeing him very much. We enjoyed many conversations over tipping back a few Budweiser's here at The Dome, Lancaster, WI. Rudy always had great stories to swap along with pulling winning pull tabs. He had a method to keeping the winning tabs in one pocket of his Harley Davidson vest and the loser pull tabs in the other pocket. Rudy was so proud of his Lolly Pop tree out front of his A Frame home in Platteville, WI. We had so many good times laughing about his buddy Don Wilson too. We wish for all to hold on to your memories of Rudy. Just a very special man. Rest In Peace Rudy! I am sure he's tipping back some Budweiser's with Randy Grimes in Heaven along with Ted Grimes too. With Our Deepest Sympathy Jerry & Janelle Carroll
