Obituary

Doris M. Clare, 88, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.  A Celebration of Doris' Life will be held at 5:00 PM, Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.  Rev Jasmine Tesdahl will officiate.  Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until the time of the service.  Memorials may be made to Grant County Hospice or to the charity of your choice in Doris' name.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Doris was born on August 21, 1936, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edgar and Dorothy (Bialucha) Hawkins. She was united in marriage to Donald C. Hale on July 17, 1954, in Clinton, Wisconsin.   She was later united in marriage to E.R. “Bob” Clare on September 20, 2008, in Platteville.  He preceded her in death on June 10, 2021.  

Doris worked at Clare Bank for over 50 years where she was Vice President of Operations and she also served on the Board of Directors.  She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking and singing.  She was a Badger and Hawkeye fan.  She especially loved her family, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Doris is survived by her eight children, Deb (Harley) McWilliams, Donna (Verne) Stuessy, Daniel (Jane) Hale, Denise (Timothy) Clare, Patrick (Barbara) Clare, Colleen (Larry) Clare, and Kelly (Tom) Cowlin; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents, and sons, Jeffrey Hale in infancy, Douglas Hale and Dennis Clare, and sister, JoAnne (Bud) Magnuson.
