Marc Bonin

January 27, 1953 - September 16, 2025

Obituary

Marc W. Bonin, 72, of rural Belmont, WI died of natural causes on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, on the land he loved doing what he loved, being in the outdoors.

Marc was born on January 27, 1953, the son of Francis “Pete” and E. Kathleen (Stephan) Bonin in Platteville, WI.  He graduated from Platteville High School in 1971 and furthered his education studying Automotive Tech through Southwest Wisconsin Technical School.  Marc was united in marriage to Margaret Tippett on June 12, 1976, at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Belmont.

Marc was an employee of John Deere and was a part-time employee working for his father, at the Bonin-Thomas Funeral Home.  He also worked for Soman Furniture in Montfort.  Marc helped local farmers, especially his son Pete in his farming operation, running for parts or giving rides to equipment.  He was an avid bow hunter of deer and turkeys.  Reading his name in the Pope & Young record book was a great accomplishment to his time and patience of hunting.  Marc also enjoyed fishing which is what his family did every August on the Chippewa Flowage, he would spend his wedding anniversary/Father's Day on the flowage with Kevin and then grandsons Kash and Kolbi joined the last few years. Marc had been going there for over 50 years. An avid racing fan he enjoyed NASCAR, but local dirt track racing was his favorite. Where he would help Pete with his open wheeled dirt modified in the pits or be sitting with family and friends in the stands. He was a collector of John Deere toys and any diecast collectible that was a reproduction of something he owned or operated.  Marc was a lifetime member of Wisconsin Bow Hunters Association. Currently a Director, member and past president of the Belmont Sportsmen's Club and a member of Pheasants Forever, Southwest Wisconsin Chapter. Marc was also a founding member of the Tri-County Archery Club.  He was a Hunters Education Instructor for 25 plus years and also taught Boating and Bowhunter Safety.  Marc's biggest joy was sharing his knowledge of the outdoors with his family and friends.  He taught Kevin how to get that big buck and Pete how to wait for that big bear.  Papa Marc was in the midst of showing all the grand kids how to catch bigger crappies than their dad's. During trapping season there were plenty of little helpers to go check traps with Papa.  Deer camp was what he looked forward to because it meant the most important people to him would be there to tell stories about years past, be together, and get out in the woods.

Marc is survived by his wife, Margaret, children, Pete (Tanya) Bonin and Kevin (Danielle) Bonin, grandchildren, Katie, McKenzie, William, Kash and Kolbi and sister, Stephanie (Ron) Sniadach.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Julitta “Jill” Schiekle in 2023.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville, WI.  Reverend Gus Barnes will officiate.  Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the funeral home and from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Monday.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.
