MARIE CAIN

Obituary

Marie T. Cain, 85, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Monday, December 8, 2025.  Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at St, Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville.  Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 10:30 AM that morning, where a rosary will be prayed prior to mass at 11:00 AM.  The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Marie was born in Kewanna, Indiana on June 28, 1940, the daughter of John and Bernadette (Dunbar) Caton.  On October 29, 1966, she was united in marriage to Jerry Cain at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Platteville.  Jerry preceded her in death on September 24, 2004.  Marie worked in the Registrar's office at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville for many years, where she retired from.

Marie was a faithful and devoted Catholic and was very proud of her Irish Catholic heritage.  As her mother had done, she attended daily Mass for many years.  Marie lived a life of devotion and loving service and was an inspiration to her family.  She often visited her sick and lonely neighbors.  Although she and her husband Jerry had no children of their own, Marie was godmother to many children and relished that role, traveling to attend their First Communions, confirmations and weddings.

Marie is survived and loved by many cousins, nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, and cherished friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Kathleen.

One of the kindest people I ever knew. I remember meeting Marie 60+ years ago. She was as lovely then as she was each time we visited over the years. A sad loss.🙏

Sorry for your loss. Marie was my dad's secretary for what seemed like forever in the Campus Planning office. The last time I saw her was at his funeral in 2016.
