Obituary

After a long battle with Alzheimer’s, Patricia A. “Pat” McWilliams, 89, of Platteville, died on Monday, October 26, 2026 at Edenbrook nursing home in Platteville.

Pat was the daughter of Jim and Leona Tindell. She had three sisters and two brothers, all of whom are now deceased. She graduated Platteville High School in 1955, where she was a cheerleader who married her high school sweetheart (Dick McWilliams, a varsity basketball player) on July 7, 1956.

Born in Platteville, Pat was steadfast in her support of her family. A dedicated wife, mother, homemaker, and snappy dresser, she worked extremely hard to support Dick and his chiropractic practice; and to ensure her children were happy and prepared to make their own way in the world.  We will always fondly remember the steely-eyed “Patsy Look” she would flash to keep us in line when we needed it.

Whether in Platteville or their winter home in Florida, Pat had a commanding presence on the golf course. She was known for the quality of her game and loudness of her cheers and

laughter, especially when playing with her sister Florence. She was a 10-time Club Champion, and to this day, she holds the course record at Platteville G&CC, a record set in 1989. She also bowled in a league for many years and loved to play cards with family and friends. Gin rummy and cribbage were her favorite card games.  A natural athlete, Pat was a fast learner and a fierce competitor. She was also known to be a voracious reader and have a great eye for beautiful art.

Pat is survived by her three children, Robert (Donna) McWilliams of Annapolis MD, Cindy (Bob) Nyberg of Hansville, WA, and John (Beth) McWilliams of Barneveld, WI; six grandchildren, Carolyn McWilliams, Richard (Brittany) McWilliams, Jim (Rachel) Nyberg, Rachel (Brooke) Nyberg, Cate (Darren) Hudziak, Jack (Jamie) McWilliams and eight great-grandchildren, Wren, Piper, Ellie, Tommy, Haddie, Vivie, Cormac and Jackson.

A private burial will be held at the Whig Cemetery where Pat will join her husband, Dick McWilliams, who died on July 19, 2019.

The family would like to thank the caring and dedicated staff at Edenbrook and St. Croix Hospice for their care and support.

In Pat’s memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at ALZ.org.   Online condolences, thoughts and memories can be made at www.melbyfh.com.
