Obituary

David Lyle Duncan, 85, of Madison, Wisconsin, died peacefully at home on Thursday, September 3, 2026. David was born on July 25, 1941, in Grant County, Wisconsin, the son of Clyde and Edna Mildred (Foster) Duncan. He and Rosemary Peacock met while attending Platteville High School, graduating together in 1960. They were united in marriage on September 5, 1964, at the First Methodist Church, Platteville, with the reception in the church basement.

David served in the United States Army from 1960-1966, receiving the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for Service in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, David began his plumbing apprenticeship with Martinson Plumbing. After becoming a master plumber he first owned D&S Plumbing, and a few years later opened Duncan Plumbing which he operated for more than 40 years.

David was always a competitive person, whether playing cards (cribbage, euchre, blackjack, poker or solitaire), football, baseball and later softball, shooting pool in several leagues in Madison or owning harness racing horses, he wanted to win. He was an avid Brewers, Packers and UW sports fan and was never hesitant to share his thoughts on their performances.

David is survived by his wife, Rosemary; two children, Dena (Paul) Duncan-Horvat and Christopher David (Rebecca Martin) Duncan; two sisters, Wahnita (Dale) Tracy and Wanda (Gene) Bartow; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Steven (Karin) Peacock, Ann (Dan) Kettler and Jean Duncan; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Clay, Leo, Foster, and Monroe (Marcene) Duncan, sisters, Iva (Arnie) Accola, Mavis (Roy) Knight and Oliva (Andy) Droullard, and father and mother-in-law, Clyde and Kathryn Peacock.

David's family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Rajguru and the staff at the UW Carbone Cancer Center, as well as the doctors and staff at the UW Digestive Health Center, specifically nurse Dean M.
