Barbara Ann Stindt, 86, peacefully passed away on August 7, 2026 surrounded by her family. The youngest of five children, Barb was born on February 25, 1940 in Rock Falls, Illinois to William “Shorty” and Gladys (Boze) Wright.
Barb was united in marriage to William “Bill” Stindt on November 27, 1964, in Rock Falls, Illinois. Barb was a physical therapist for many years in Sterling, IL and was an avid golfer and won many ladies championships at the Emerald Hills Country Club in Sterling, Illinois. While living in Rock Falls, Illinois, she served on the church council, the police & fire commission, the school district’s PTA and PTO, coached T-ball, and was president of the school board. In 1984 she moved to Platteville, where for many years she was a secretary at Westview Elementary School until her retirement. She always enjoyed attending her kids’ activities, spending time tending to her flower gardens and was an avid reader, especially mysteries. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, day trips, watching wildlife, and spending time with friends and family, especially her children and grandchildren.
She was a strong devoted wife, mother, community member, and friend. She will be remembered for her genuine kindness, compassion, and sense of humor. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Barb is survived by her husband, Bill; her three children, Bob (Michael) Stindt, John (Brittney) Stindt and Amy (John) Spohn; two grandchildren, Lydia (Adrianna) Stindt and Caden Stindt; her brother- in- law, Don (Sheryl) Stindt, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Robert; her three sisters, Betty Holschuh, Joyce Crawford, and Joan Sell; brothers in law, Don Crawford, Wendell Holschuh, Leon Sell, and Jim Copeland; mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and Fred Stindt; and her nephews, Jim Sell and Marc Stindt.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.
