Obituary

Ronald “Dean” Crider II, age 68, died on July 15, 2026, in his home in Platteville, WI. Dean was born on January 2, 1958, in Hammond, IN, the son of Ronald and Shirley (Jarvis) Crider. He grew up in Schererville, IN, and graduated from there in 1976. He studied graphic arts at DeVry University for two years. He resided in Schererville until he married Robin (Burgin) on December 9, 2004, after which they moved to Illinois. The two moved to Wisconsin in 2019 to be closer to their family.

Dean worked as a truck driver for 16 years. After driving truck, he became a cab driver for four years. He spent his time disassembling and reassembling computers and designing websites. His affinity for technology allowed him to stay connected to his friends online. Outside of digital technology and design, he enjoyed woodworking, especially building Christmas ornaments and birdhouses. Dean was known to watch old Western movies. He passed the time tinkering in the garage, working on cars until they became computerized.

Dean is survived by his loving wife; his siblings, Steven Arnold, Donna (Stan) Ward, Dave (Star) Crider; his stepchildren, Amanda (Jeff) Mauthe, Marc Cruz; his grandchildren, Lilli and Gabe; his niece and nephews, Sarah Crider, Corey Davis, Matt (Ann) Crider and Micheal (Jennifer) Crider; and many aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepdaughter Elizabeth Cruz, his nieces and nephews, Nate Davis, Khara Davis, and Jessica Crider, and his wife Irene Gabriel.

The family would like to thank Dr. Klann and the staff at Agrace Hospice and SSM Health in Monroe for their kindness and care.

A visitation for Ronald will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10:00am to 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Platteville. A service will take place at church at 11:00am with President Jordan Johnson presiding. Luncheon will follow.

I became long-distance friends with Irene & Dean when she wrote me March 1994. She had a Book of Mormon I’d written in, and we kept in touch. Her life was very difficult & she was sick. In September 1999 she called & read me a beautiful poem she’d written to honor those with chronic illness. Dean called 6 days later & told me of her sudden passing and his care for her. He drove through on his way to Seattle to be with his family in October, and left us a couple copies of her poem, “The Peace I Seek”. Irene was a survivor, who despite incredible odds had a simple faith in Christ. She converted to our faith in her own way and developed desire to live and help others by making something positive from her life. To me she left a legacy of endurance and a man who loved her and stayed by her through it all, Dean. I admired his goodness & respected him very much. Peace to all his family & loved ones.

She had poor health and struggles , A week before her passing, she called me & read a beautiful poem she'd written, "In Peace I Seek". Dean called with the news of her death, and stopped by our home on his way to be with his family in Seattle. This was October 1999. He left us a couple copies of her poem. Irene was a survivor, who despite incredible odds had a simple faith in Christ. She converted to our faith in her own way and developed desire to live and help others by making something positive from her life. To me she left a legacy of endurance and a man who loved her and stayed by her through it all, Dean. I admired his compassion & caring for her very much & respected him for that. He was a tender & sweet man.

Dean was such a great cousin to have. He was always there to listen when I needed him. I ran into him and his brother David one time on the road when were truckers. The last time I got to see him I had gone off course (on purpose) and stopped in Iowa to visit him and his wife and his mom. We had a great time together! I only wish I could have spent more time with him. Thank you Dean for all the lifelong memories you gave me. You just rest now. I love you and will always miss you.
