Obituary

With heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Carolyn (Hall) Nodolf, July 12, 2026, at the age of 90. Carolyn Blanche Hall was born on January 6, 1936, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts to parents Donald and Rose (Schwender) Hall. Carolyn embraced life's journey with open arms and an open heart. She possessed boundless energy and perseverance. She married high school sweetheart Thom “Thor” Wadlund in April 1953, a union that blessed them with seven children. Carolyn married Carl Nodolf on December 25, 1971, blending their families and expanding her circle of loved ones even further. Family was her greatest treasure - she was the proud matriarch of a family tree that included her surviving children: Arthur (Jan) Wadlund, Thom “Thommy” Wadlund, Roger (Jill) Wadlund, Donald Peter Wadlund, Matthew Wadlund, and Eric (Rowena) Wadlund, and her siblings, Margaret (Doug) Smith and Donna (Charles) French. Extended family includes her stepchildren, Ken (Carol) Nodolf and Deb (Larry) Jenny. Her heart and home were always open to her 14 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and great stepgrandchildren. Carolyn's life was touched by sorrow with the passing of several family members: her husbands, Thor Wadlund and Carl Nodolf; her daughter, Nancy Lee Cowie; son-in-law, Reg Cowie; stepson, Gary Nodolf; and grandson, Luke Wadlund. Despite these losses, Carolyn's spirit remained invincible, a testament to her strength and resilience. Professionally, Carolyn found fulfillment beyond her role as a dedicated mother. She worked as a Physical Therapy Assistant at Parkview Terrace, contributed her talents at Lands' End Embroidery department, and partnered with her husband Carl at Nodolf Realty.

Active in the community, Carolyn was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and could often be found volunteering for Meals on Wheels. She was an avid supporter of UWP basketball during the Bo Ryan era and cherished her time with her walking group. Her winters were spent Tucson, Arizona where she enjoyed the warmth with her family for over 30 years. Carolyn will be remembered for her quick wit and generous smile, always ready to engage in a heartfelt conversation and genuinely interested in the lives of others.

Funeral services will be at Noon, Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville.  Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the church.  The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Sending our deepest condolences to the family of Carolyn. She was certainly full of life and cared for everyone she knew. Several years ago we moved my mom to an assisted living and had a yard sale to downsize her things. Carolyn stopped by and we caught up on how all of her family was doing. She left and a few hours later, she came back to show me pictures of Matt and his family. She was always thinking of others. She knew that Matt and I grew up together and that Jim worked with Tom and Pete at the Timbers. She will be greatly missed, but lived such a full life. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. I worked with Carolyn while in college 1970-73. We were Physical Therapy technicians at Parkview Terrace under Warren Sundean PT. She was wonderful, funny, smart, and made my day very enjoyable. She will be missed by many. Betsy Stead Smith

I first met Carolyn while working at Parkview Terrace. She always had a positive attitude and a smile on her face. Although I haven't seen her in a few years, her caring, delightful friendship will always be remembered. She was truly a special lady.
