Obituary

Philip “Phil” C. Kettler, 66, of Platteville, WI, died Tuesday, May 19, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 6:30 PM at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, WI. The visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.  Pastor Mary Ann Floerke will officiate.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Phil was born on January 4, 1960, the son of Clinton and Delta (Martens) Kettler.  He graduated from Platteville High School in 1978.  Phil worked for Sam’s Club in Madison in the automotive department for many years and became the department manager.  After retirement, he moved back to Platteville.  Phil was a fisherman and enjoyed going with his fishing buddies Mike “Friday” Lynch and Dave Schmoekel.  He also was a member of the Dave McWilliams racing crew. 

Phil is survived by his daughter, Candace (Kendall) Brumley, his grandchildren, Clayton and Lyla Brumley, sisters, Anita (Wayne) Carns, Sue Kettler and Faye Kettler, sisters-in-law, Ilene, Bev and Ann Kettler, many nieces and nephews, the Klinger Family, Katie, Peg (Don), Tom, Ted (Betsy), Terry (Kim), Kris, Connie (Doug), Pat (Krandal) and Barb (Brian) and his many friends in in the ”downtown “ area .  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Marvin, Wayne and Dan and a sister, Karen (Mick) Reimer.

My family has alot of great memories with phil, he was a valued member of davevmcwilliams race team, always there to make me laugh! Miss him! I knows hes up there smiling away with my mom and dave! ❤️❤️❤️

I have many wonderful memories with Phil- from the several group cruises we went on, to the many times we sat and had a few beers together downtown. :) I got to be Phil's chicken fight partner in the pool on one of the cruises. And I have to say, if I walked into a bar by myself & Phil was in there, he was always the first person I would choose to sit by. His sense of humor & great personality always drew me in. He will be incredibly missed by so many. I keep thinking about his many buddies who were ready to greet him at the pearly gates. God Bless you, Phil. Thanks for being such a great person & for good memories we all can hold onto.

I remember Phil well. I was in eight and ninth grade and he lived on the family farm next door to our farm which was owned by his grandfather Orville. My stepdad George Williams ran our farm and Phil always came up to our farm and Phil, my step brother Roger Williams would go fishing and hang out together evenings after the chores were done. He always had a happy personality with a big heart. So sorry to hear of his passing. Deep sympathy and condolences to his family. Wally Hemple

My son, Allen (Al) Weigel was born on January 6, 1960, two days after Philip, so we were roomies at the Cuba City hospital. Just the beginning of life for our boys. May your family have comfort in all the loving memories of Philip. Prayers and Love to all of you. Ann Weigel, Al's mom

Phil was our silly little cousin who always made us smile. He had a smile that made you think he was up to something. I have so many memories as i spent most weekend's at the farm with them. Rest in pease sweet Phil
