Rolf Lumpert

Rolf A. Lumpert, 89, of Platteville, WI died Friday, February 20, 2026. Funeral services will be at Noon, Friday, February 27, 2026, at Westview Methodist Church, Platteville.  Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville.  Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.  The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.  

Rolf was born on April 8, 1936, in Bubikon, Zurich, Switzerland, the son of Karl A. and Helene I. (Meier) Lumpert.  He was united in marriage to Resi I. Jurke on May 30, 1962, at Rapperswil, St. Gallen, Switzerland.

Rolf was an assistant professor at the University of Iowa, German department, department chair at University of Dubuque, German Department.  He taught at the University of Wisconsin System, working many years at UW-Richland.  He served as a United Church of Christ minister in Black River Falls, Winnebago tribe.  He was very well educated knowing seven languages. Rolf was always reading and learning throughout his life.

Rolf is survived by his wife, Resi; two sons, Martin (Sonia) and Charles (Eriko); nine grandchildren, Angela, Carlos, Laura (Erika), Nicholas (Linsey), Jordan, Keller, Sage, Mae, and Hannah; two great-grandchildren, Carver and Blake; sister-in-law, Lucia.

He was preceded in death by his, daughter, Esther, his parents, and brother, Charles.
