Dewey was born on July 30, 1954 in Belmont the son of Dale “Barney” and Ila Mae (Busch) Bockhop. He attended Bethel Grove for his primary schooling, and then attended Belmont Community Schools for his High School years. He graduated high school in 1972 after receiving many athletic and academic awards. He went on to work at Nodolf Lumber, in Belmont, for 25 years. Dewey then went to work at Heartland Manor Care for the past 15 years, serving as their maintenance director.
During Dewey's years, he started out of school as one of the top fast pitch players in the area, then switching over to the slow pitch game. He was a member of the “Rebel's Blue” team that won countless local and state tournaments; it was then that he was able to play with his closest friends in life. He married Julie (Banfield) on April 21, 1978 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City; they enjoyed 36 years of marriage. They were blessed with two children. They enjoyed movies, going out to eat, and traveling to see their daughter and grandkids. Dewey was a member of the Belmont Village Board for 20 years. He always spoke of his accomplishment of being one of five founding fathers on the Dumb Corner. Although he and his wife moved to Cuba City 15 years ago, he always made it known that he was a Belmont Brave. He was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers, all Badger sports, and Brodhead Cardinal sports fan his son was coaching. He is survived by his loving wife, Julie, of Cuba City; daughter, Jenny Bockhop of Sun Prairie; son, BJ (Annie) Bockhop of Brodhead; two grandsons, Gabe and Bryce, who were the joys of his life. He is also survived by three siblings, sisters, Peggy Bockhop of Clearwater, FL; Pam (Buck) of Scottsdale, AZ; brother, Butch (Peggy) Bockhop of Belmont; father and mother-in-law, Ed and Arlene Banfield of Cuba City; and countless nieces and nephews. He also will be missed by his many family, friends, and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale “Barney” and Ila Mae Bockhop; and brother, Dalen.
