Obituary

John D. Kastner, 65, of Platteville died on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Perry Oates will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW #5274. Friends may call from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, or from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Sunday. Memorials may be made to the John D. John was born on May 25, 1949 in Platteville, the son of John Robert and Sylvia (Kress) Kastner. He was united in marriage to Pamela Woodward on November 1, 1969 at First English Lutheran Church, Platteville. John served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War 1969 – 1971. He worked as a roofer for many years for various companies in Platteville. He was a member of the VFW Post #5274. John enjoyed being part of the original coffee clutch at Ed's Café. He was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and his great-grandson, Blake. He is survived by his wife, Pam of Platteville; three children, John “Dan” (Nancy) Kastner of Potosi, David (fiancé, Rachel Dailey) Kastner of Dallas, TX; Darcy Kastner of Cuba City, WI; five grandchildren, Kayla, Kami, Hunter, Brett and Chase, great-grandson, Blake; sisters, Debbie (Dave) Lipska, Peg Powell, Betty (Clark) Anderson all of Platteville; Charles “Tuna” (Sue) Kastner of Platteville; Mike (Liz) Kastner of Virginia Beach, VA; godchildren, Jessica and Kimberly; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Tiffany Marie Kastner on August 6, 2008 and sister, Kim in 1963.
