Obituary
Emmy Probst, 69, of Pewaukee passed away on October 7, 2014 at her home, with her daughters by her side. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18 at the Melby Funeral Home and Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a service at 12:00 p.m. Rev. Zayna Thompson will officiate. A luncheon will follow the ceremony. For those memorial minded, gifts can be made to the Emmy L. Probst Memorial Fund which will be allocated to the Platteville High School Scholarship Fund. However, she would consider the gift better used if you called a friend, went to lunch, and celebrated life.
Emmy was born in Platteville to William and Marie (Masbruch) Butson; she was the youngest of four children. After her early years on the family farm, she moved to town and attended the Lab School. She graduated from Platteville High School in 1963. After graduation, she moved to Milwaukee to be trained as a Surgical Technician at Deaconess Hospital. When she completed her schooling she worked in surgery at County Hospital in Milwaukee. While nursing was her primary career, during her time in Milwaukee she decided to obtain her realtors license.
In 1975, Emmy returned to reside in Platteville. She worked as a surgical technician at the hospital and also for many years as the orthodontic office manager. In 1987, that long ago realtors license was resurrected and she joined Century 21. In 1991, she and Beverly Johansen started Rountree Realty where they were later joined by partner Deb Jenny as well as many other wonderful co-workers. She considered it an honor and a privilege to work for so many people who chose to call Platteville home.
Emmy was a champion of Platteville and devoted to making it a great place to live. She was a multi-term president of the Platteville Area Industrial Development Corporation. Chairperson of the Southwest Health Center Board of Directors and a long-time Board Member for First National Bank of Platteville. She enjoyed volunteering for the Strawberry Festival and the American Cancer Society and being a sister of P.E.O. Chapter BN. She was a member of St. Augustine's and St. Mary's Church.
For pleasure, she was always up for a trip to the “boat” in Dubuque, a shopping stroll in Galena, a good brisk walk with a friend, girls movie night or lunch at The Owl. There was never a time she would turn down a chance to buy shoes.
Most of all, Emmy was a beloved daughter, a cherished baby sister, a loyal and devoted friend, and the best Mom anyone could ever have. She is survived by daughters Rachel (Glen) Weitzer, Sarah (Mike) Groeschl; four grandsons, Gabe Weitzer, Noah Weitzer, Ben Groeschl and Alex Groeschl; sister Della Mae (Don) Goke; brothers Walter and Delbert Butson and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents.
