Obituary
Lynn A. Carpenter, 75, of Platteville, died on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Southwest Health Center Hospital in Platteville. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 27, 2014 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Zayna Thompson will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service of Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lynn A. Carpenter Memorial Fund. Lynn was born on June 30, 1939 in Darlington, the son of Harold and Helen (Wisco) Carpenter. He was united in marriage to Darlene VanNatta on October 4, 1968 in Galena, IL. Lynn was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #5274. He enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, fishing, playing cards at the VFW, and was known very well for his jokes. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; children, Larry (Sandy) Howell of Bagley, WI; Chris (Jack) Williams of Silvis, IL; Randy Howell of Dubuque, IA; grandchildren, Jamie, Nicole, Jake, and Jesse; sister, Nila Tate of Shullsburg; brother, Kim Carpenter of South Wayne; brother-in-law, Denny Banfield; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, JoAnn Banfield. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Southwest Health Center, especially Dr. Connolly, for all of their care given to Lynn.
