Fern E. Klar, 96, of Platteville died on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Gray's Nursing Home, Platteville. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. Rev. Jerry Zhanay will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 9: 30 a.m. until the time of the mass at the church. Memorials may be made to the Fern E. Klar Memorial Fund. Fern was born on August 26, 1918 in rural Grant County the daughter of Frank and Lena (Heins) Boldt. She was united in marriage to Virgil Klar on December 28, 1940. He preceded her in death on October 11, 1987. Fern attended the Blockhouse School and graduated from Platteville High School in 1936. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville, and the Council of Catholic Women. She belonged to the Southwest Health Center Auxiliary and a longtime member of the Humane Society of the U.S. She loved raising and caring for her roses. She is survived by her niece, Mary (Gary) Manuell of Hollister, MO; niece, Delores (Don) Seitz of Platteville; great-nieces Amy Dresen-Spurlock, and Ann Dresen-Sherman and great-great-nephews, Morgan Sherman and Tayden Shockley all of Springfield, MO.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Edna Boldt and Loretta Funk, and brother-in-law, Nick Funk.
