Obituary

After a short stay at Manor Care, Arnold C. Speth, 76, of Platteville, WI, went to be with the Lord, on Thursday, November 6, 2014. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November13, 2014 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Burial will be at Nip-N-Tuck Cemetery, Lima Township. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Arnold (Arnie) was the only child born to Tyrus and Margarelle (Otte) Speth on April 14, 1938. They farmed near Rewey until they moved to Platteville. He graduated from Platteville High School in1956 where he enjoyed woodworking and ag classes. He attended the State University of Platteville studying Agriculture. After two years of attending the University he left school to pursue his dream of farming with his father at his current residence on State Road 80.

Arnie met his wife, Murial during the summer of l961. He was introduced to the gospel and had accepted the Lord as his Savior in l962. He was baptized in Beetown and received into the Beetown Gospel Hall Assembly. Arnie and Murial Bethke were married August 17, 1963. They took residence on the family farm. The farming ventures included dairy, hogs, beef, sheep and poultry. In 1982 the laying hen business was converted into a state inspected poultry processing plant. He processed chickens, ducks, pheasants, geese, turkeys, and rabbits for 22 years serving customers from the tri-state area.

Through the years Arnie and Murial's (Mert) travels covered all continental 48 states, Canada and Mexico.

He is survived by his wife, Murial, four children; Lee (Julie) Speth, Dodgeville; Lucinda Champion, Platteville; Lexa Speth, New Glarus; and Loren Speth, Platteville:
Four grandchildren: Rachel Speth, Madison; Travis Speth, Yorktown, VA; Nicole Speth, Dodgeville, and Mackenzie Speth, Platteville; one great-granddaughter, Keira Erickson, Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents.

My heart goes out to you and your family during this difficult time, Mert. You and I know that Arnie is in a better place right now; however, he has left a huge void after 50+ years with you. It's difficult to say "Mert" without saying "and Arnie" right along with your name. I'll always remember when you told me about Arnie taking you "snipe hunting." ;-) There are lots of stories you can share with your kids and grandkids (talk about Arnie often to those grandkids of yours....it definitely helps with the healing process). Arnie was your soul-mate, Mert, and the BEST hubby for my very best friend. Bless your little heart, Mert....and Arnie's, too. Evy
