Robert H. “Bob” Osterholz, 92, of Platteville died on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Epione Pavilion, Cuba City. Celebration of life will be at Noon, Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Pastor Mary Ann Floerke will officiate. Chapel military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Bob was born on February 27, 1922 in Platteville the son of Mandy and Lanie (Kramer) Osterholz. Bob was united in marriage to Verna Webster on March 26, 1943. She preceded him in death in December 1994. He graduated from Platteville High School in 1941. Bob served in the Unites States Army, during WW II, October 6, 1942 – January 23, 1946. He was overseas for 16 months in England and Germany. He earned the victory medal, American Theater ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with two bronze battle stars, three overseas service bars, service strip and the Good Conduct Medal. After serving his country, he farmed in the Platteville area for several years. He worked construction for Wilfred Soles for a few years. For twenty years he worked for the Platteville Schools doing maintenance, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the VFW Post #5274. Bob enjoyed family visits and partying with anyone who stopped by. He enjoyed his time at Bagley, fishing, and playing cards, music and dancing. He was an avid Badger fan and enjoyed following the Packers. He is survived by three children, Ron (Jill) Osterholz of Middleton, WI; Tom (Jayne) Osterholz and Connie (Steve) Cullen of Platteville; seven grandchildren, Kyle (Dr. Sara Nelson) Osterholz, Trent (Katie) Osterholz, Wade Osterholz, Tim Osterholz, Dr. Tara (John) Osterholz-Schultz, Nicole (John Storke) Cullen, Jared (fiancé, Samantha Vaassen) Cullen; three great-grandchildren, Lucca, Nora, Luther and the fourth great-grandchild due in June; brother, Herbert Osterholz of Belmont; sisters-in-law, Ada Osterholz, Ruth Osterholz, Ila Schuster, MaryJo Hartwig, Lillian (Doug) Morgan, June (John) Sullivan, Jean Webster, Orva Webster, Viola Webster; brother-in-law, Rodney (Judy) Webster; many nieces and nephews, devoted neighbor and friend, Nancy Ware and friends of Monroe Street in Platteville. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Betty Christensen, Bernice Sheldon, brothers, Donald, Charles, Harold “Slim” and Richard.
