Leona L. Hood, 98, of Platteville died on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Park Place Assisted Living, Platteville. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Westview Methodist Church. Bob Bennett will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be an Eastern Star Service at 7:00 p.m., friends may also call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. Leona was born on October 18, 1916 in Platteville the daughter of Arthur and Cora (Henry) Wentz. She was married to LeRoy Hood on November 24, 1936 in Galena, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1996. She and LeRoy farmed near Potosi for over 20 years and then in Platteville Township. They moved to Platteville where they owned and operated the Platteville Laundry Mat. She was a member of Westview Methodist Church, where she was an active member. She was a life member of the Miriam Chapter #15 Order of the Eastern Star, W.T. Sherman's Woman's Relief Corps #75. Leona volunteered for many years at the Platteville Thrift Shop where she served on the board for many years. She loved to bake, crochet, quilt, embroider, and reading. She and LeRoy always loved to travel, camp and always loved visiting with family and friends. She is survived by three children, Dale (Carol Ann) Hood of Platteville; Richard (Darlene) Hood of Lancaster; Darlene (David) Maahs of Bagley; 5 grandchildren, Kurt Hood, Brian (Bonnie) Hood, Brad (Heidi Loy) Hood, Daniel (Cindy) Maahs and Donald (Star) Maahs;8 great-grandchildren, Denver, Jerrica, Carman Rose, Dezirae, Brandon, Brooke, Ashley and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two grandsons, Dennis in 1965 and Kevin in 2004.
