Obituary

Bart R. Rice, 53, of Platteville passed away from complications from liver and kidney failure on Monday, February 2, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Deacon Bill Bussan will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville, where following the burial, there will be a luncheon to honor Bart's life at Pioneer Lanes, Platteville. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2015 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, or after 10:00 a.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bart R. Bart was born on June 9, 1961 in Platteville, the only child of Dick and Joanne (Lyght) Rice. He attended Platteville Schools and UW Platteville, while working at Arcade III. Bart earned a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance. After graduation, he managed the Legion Lounge for many years. At the time of his death he was employed at Tower Junction in Montfort. On August 13, 2004 he married Cathy Field Meyer.
He enjoyed bowling, where he bowled a perfect game. He golfed in high school and college and scored a hole in one. Bart was an avid sports fan. He loved the Badgers and Packers. He loved to take road trips and travel to Las Vegas with his wife. He especially enjoyed going to Nationals and bowling with his dad.
He is survived by his parents, wife, stepchildren, Blake and Brandy (Kurt Wanezek) Meyer, step granddaughter, Addison Schneider, in laws, Roger and Fran Field, sister in law, Kari Field, brother in law, Karl Field, aunts, uncles, and many cousins. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

My sincerest condolences to all of Bart's family. He and I played many a round of golf together while on the high school team and bowled many years in the Saturday league. We shared many laughs together. A very fine, friendly man.
