Cyril Clayton

Cyril V. “Cy” Clayton, 82, of Platteville died on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Brenda Whitford will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorials may be made to the Cyril V. “Cy” Clayton Memorial Fund. Cy was born on June 12, 1932 in Seymour Twp., Lafayette County, the son of James and Alda (Vickers) Clayton. Cy farmed on his family farm until 1977 when he and his family moved to Platteville. He worked at Southwest Supply, Platteville for a short time. In 1979 Cy went to work for the Platteville Street Department where he worked from 1979 until his retirement in 1998. After retiring he continued on a part-time basis for a few years working for the city of Platteville. He was a member of the Platteville United Methodist Church. Cy enjoyed raising roses and sharing them with his friends. He was an avid Badgers, Brewers, Chicago Bears fan, and he always enjoyed following Platteville High School athletics. Cy was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Orlo on February 9, 2012 and his cousin, Harold Vickers.
