Obituary

Louis L. “Leon” Gogue, 92, of Platteville, Wisconsin, formerly of Harco, Illinois, Chicago, Illinois, and Arnold, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at University Hospital, Madison. Friends may call from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Private family services will follow. Graveside services along with military rites will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March16, 2015 at the New St. John's Cemetery, corner of Lemay Ferry Road and Forder Road, St. Louis. Leon was born on August 23, 1922 in Harco, Illinois, the son of Albert and Mahala (Bradley) Gogue. He was united in marriage to Laverne B. Hammonds on April 18, 1945. She preceded him in death on August 13, 1987. He later married Ella Jean Tuttle. Leon served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was stationed in San Diego, California and the New Hebrides Islands. Leon worked in the lumber yard business before becoming a carpenter, retiring in 1984. After retirement Leon lived in southern Illinois until he moved to Platteville in March 2007. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He loved to fish and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Leon is survived by his son, Louis L. Gogue, Jr. of St. Louis; daughter, Laura Jean (Ralph) Meyer of Montfort, WI; two granddaughters, Yvonne Kohn, Shonda (Scott) Crapp of Lancaster, WI; five great-grandchildren, Jenna and Christopher Kohn, Jarin, Jaycie and Jamin Crapp; sister-in-law, Laverne Hammonds of St. Louis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, Arthur, Roscoe, Robert, Dossie, Lawrence, Clarence and John, sisters, Madge Hammonds, Bessie Imboden and Louetta Johnson, brother-in-law, Robert Hammonds.

Dear Laura Jean, Louis & Family, Scott & I are thinking of all of you during this time. We loved Uncle Leon. He was a wonderful man. We are so thankful we got to visit with him these last couple of reunions & hear his stories. We wish we could be there. Love You All, Scott & Lessa Lambert
