Charles Jenkins

Charles W. Jenkins, 84, of Platteville, formerly of Cassville, WI and East Dubuque, IL, died on April 4, 2015 at the Lancaster Care Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Jeff Pedersen will officiate. Burial will be at Lima Union Cemetery, rural Platteville. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. (Noon) until the time of service on Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Charles W. Charles was born on September 11, 1930, in Beloit, WI, son of Milton and Clara (Faust) Jenkins. He was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard, Company M, from 1947 until 1952. He worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co., retiring after 33 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and flying; he became a private pilot in 1960 and owned several small planes. He married Bernita Craven on August 4, 1951. He is survived by his wife, Bernita, of Platteville; one daughter, Shirley (Mark) Peter of Oregon, WI; one son, Allen (Vanessa) Jenkins of Wilton, IA; son-in-law, Timothy Hodgkins of Maine; five grandchildren, Kim (Todd) Kerkenbush; Kevin (Megan Clark) Peter; Keith (Danae Newallo) Peter; Leanna (Bret) Houston; Conner Jenkins; great-grandsons, Alex, Ryan, Sean, and Luke Kerkenbush, Aurelius Peter; three brothers, Robert, Jerry (Karen), and Albert (Cindy) Jenkins; two sisters, Alice (Irv) Johnson and Marjorie Heidemann; sister-in-law, Dorothy Place; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kathy Kay Hodgkins in 2004; two brothers, Howard and Eugene in infancy.
