Karen J. Dobson, 72, of Platteville died on Monday, April 27, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Zayna Thompson will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. Karen was born on March 27, 1943 in Grant County, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Agnes (Jentz) Gates. She graduated from Belmont High School in 1961. Karen was united in marriage to Charles Dobson on June 10, 1961 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Platteville. She worked for Lange Ski Boots, Dubuque, for a while, and then worked at Advance Transformer, Platteville, for 23 years. After Advance Transformer closed she worked at Dick's Bakery, Platteville until her retirement in 2005. She was a member of First Congregational United Church, Elk's Lodge, and past member of Southwest Auto Club, Platteville. She enjoyed bowling, doing ceramics, and riding in her convertible. She was an avid Badgers Fan. She especially loved following her grandchildren in their school activities and sports.
Karen is survived by her husband, Charles of Platteville; four children, Michael (Elaine) Dobson of Franklin, WI; Dawn (David Grueneberg) Bierman of Evansville, WI; Michele (Brad) Schobert and Cheryl (Bert) Logsdon all of Belmont, WI; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Jayne) Gates of Sherrill, IA; sister-in-law, Karen Gates of Sun Prairie, WI; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Virgil Berget; infant great-grandson, Wyatt; and brothers, Ronald and Dale Gates.
