Clayton Knox

Clayton D. Knox, 79, of Platteville, Wisconsin, passed away at home surrounded by the love of his daughters on June 28, 2015.
Clayton was born on March 6, 1936 in Harrison Township, the son of Clarence and Gretta Knox. He was united in marriage to his soul mate, Linda Martin, on June 13, 1970 at the United Church of Christ in Platteville. Clayton was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. He always put others first and never hesitated to help in any way he could. He served as an Airman in the United States Air Force as a fire protection specialist and was stationed in Korea and Nebraska. Clayton was awarded the Good Conduct Medal in February, 1962.
With the exception of the four years he was in the Air Force, Clayton spent his entire life farming in Harrison Township. He loved raising animals and working the land. He was proud that he spent his whole life on the family farm. In recent years, Clayton enjoyed watching his grandchildren play on the farm. Clayton was an exceedingly generous person and derived much pleasure from growing vegetables, pumpkins, and gourds in his garden and then giving them away to others. He was also well known for his gifts of apples, peaches and strawberries to family, friends, and neighbors.
Clayton is survived by his daughters, Janet (Eric) Lambert of Lakeville, MN and Dr. Barbara Knox (Bob Schlotthauer) of Cross Plains; his grandchildren Ryan and Josh Lambert and Emma and Eve Schlotthauer; his brother, Doug (Karen) Knox of Lancaster; sister-in law Kathy Knox of Madison; brothers- in- law Jeff Martin of Dickeyville, Tom (Rose) Martin of Potosi, Dick Martin of Lancaster, sisters-in-law Gail Martin of Elk Mound, and Joann Plear of Shullsburg; his mother-in-law, Grace Martin of Platteville and many loving nieces and a nephew. Clayton was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Linda; his parents, Clarence and Gretta Knox, his brother, James, his father-in-law, Merwyn “Bud” Martin, sister-in-law Anita Martin, and brother-in-law, Tim Plear.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11:00am at Melby Funeral Home in Platteville with Rev. Zayna Thompson officiating. A private burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Cornelia. Chapel military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, from 4:00-7:00 pm and also from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Friday, July 3, 2015 at the Melby Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Clayton D.
