Mary Alice Nickel, 91, of Potosi, died on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at her home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.melbyfh.com.
Alice was born on January 25, 1924 in Lancaster. She was united in marriage to LaVern Nickel in the fall of 1972 in Michigan. Alice was a wonderful cook; she could take any wild game and cook it so well you wouldn't even know. She also was a wonderful baker, a family favorite were her homemade candies. Alice and LaVern spent a lot of time hunting and fishing together. She was an excellent seamstress; she also enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers. Alice just loved life. Alice is survived by her husband, LaVern of Potosi; grandson, Jeff (Donna) Austin of Baraboo; children, Gloria (Roger) Lane, Deb Gelbech, Susan (Reg) Simmons; grandchildren, Bobbie Jo (Jamie) Post, Melissa (Scott) Wagner, Katie Lane, Jessica Lane, Adriana, Elyssa, and Taylor “Tess” Simmons; great-grandchildren, Bradly Lolwing, Andromeda Hastert, Joelle Austin and Chantel Austin; sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Robert) Eck and Donna (Phil) Nickson; brother-in-law, Carson Clifton and son-in-law, Jerry Austin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jim; daughter-in-law, Marley Austin; and sister-in-law, Arlene Clifton.
