U.S. VeteranJoseph Jones Jr. USAF, Retired, 77, of Platteville, Wisconsin, passed away on September 17, 2015 at home. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Joe was born on September 3, 1938, the son of Joseph R. and Gertrude (Dailey) Jones. He was united in marriage to Sandra Luke on October 20, 1961. Joe retired from the US Air Force with the rank of Master Sargent and 20 years of service to his country. Following his military retirement he was an employment counselor, working mainly with veterans, for the state of Iowa, for another 20 years. After his second retirement, he volunteered for the VFW. He was past Post Commander, past District Commander, and present Post Adjutant and Quarter Master. Joe is survived by his wife, Sandy of Platteville; sisters, Vicki Miles of Platteville; and Linda (Frank) Doser of Potosi; many nieces, nephews, and special pets, Pepperoni the dog, and Mandy the cat. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl and Bob; and sister, Hattie.

Joe was a “world class act” comedian with a bountiful repertoire of jokes and one-liners, which was assured to humor and embarrass those around him. A good way to describe Joe would be the following quote…”No, I am not a smartass…I'm a skilled, trained professional in pointing out the obvious and I speak fluent sarcasm.”

We were surprised to hear of Joe's death. Don't know if he had been sick or not. You have our deepest sympathy. We are in the midst of packing in anticipation of moving in October. ( We have accepted an offer, but there are plenty of contingencies, so it is not a " for sure" yet.). Nonetheless, we are spending long days sorting, packing, and finding movers storage, etc. just in case it goes. We will call you in November and make plans to get together. Lots to reminisce about. You and Joe were very special people to us. Take care of yourself, Sandy. HUGS. Pat and Jean
