Richard W. “Dick” Abing, 71, of Potosi, Wisconsin, died on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at his home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Tennyson. Father Richard Leffler will officiate. Burial will be at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded. Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2015 at St. Andrews Catholic Church, where there will be a rosary at 2:45 p.m.; friends may also call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church. Richard was born on March 29, 1944 in Potosi Township, son of Charles and Martha (Schmitz) Abing. He was united in marriage to Paulette Powell on October 16, 1965 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Potosi. He served in the United States Navy from 1962 – 1964. He worked for 30 years at John Deere Dubuque Works, where he was a member of UAW Local 94. He enjoyed cooking, farming, tending to his yard, camping, hunting. He also enjoyed woodworking, his tractor pulling and snowmobiling, where he belonged to the Kieler Moonshiners Snowmobile Club. Dick always enjoyed visiting with his friends at the “Office” – Kueper's in Dickeyville. Dick enjoyed spending time with his family and took great pride in his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Paulette of Potosi; three children, RaeAnn (Gary) Palzkill of Potosi; Renee (Bill, Jr.) Waterman of Potosi; Rick (Sherry) Abing of Pensacola, FL; five grandchildren; Lyndsey Wepking, Adam Kieler, Jenna Mumm, Wyatt and Danika Abing; one great-grandson, Brayden Wepking; seven sisters, Marie Herrig, Irene Seng, Berniece Kieler- Kaiser, Luella Brant, Betty (Jim) Jungk, Doris (Bernie) Hentrich, Margaret (Joe) Hentrich; one brother, Irvin (Katie) Abing; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Zoey Abing and three brothers, Cyril, Leo and Gerard.
