James Runde

James “Charlie” M. Runde, 64, of Platteville, died on Friday, March 4, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Friends may call from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, where there will be a scripture wake service at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Charlie was born on July 8, 1951 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of James Clement and Roseanne (Budden) Runde. He was united in marriage to Kristine Kowalski on July 3, 1993 in Kieler, WI. Charlie worked at Jenny's Cheese Factory, as well as, farming by the Platteville mound. He then went to work with his father-in-law “Paver” Kowalski, which then led to owning and operating, Kowalski-Runde Plumbing and Heating, for many years, in Dickeyville. Charlie enjoyed bowling, golfing, and especially enjoyed building and tinkering with things; he even built his own motorized recumbent bike. He also played fast pitch softball, where he will be inducted into the Wisconsin Fast Pitch Hall of Fame in June of this year in Boscobel, for playing 3rd base. Most of all, Charlie loved to spend time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Charlie is survived by his wife, Kris of Platteville; four children, Shelby Blindert of Platteville; Kelly (Dave) Frain of Platteville; Rachel (Tony) McFall of Dickeyville; Josephine Runde of Platteville; four grandchildren, Emma and Addison Frain and Justin and Isabella McFall; five sisters, Michele “Mickey” (Daryl) Tranel of Platteville; Maureen (Joe) Williams of Waunakee, WI; Marianne (Mike) Rauls of Prairie du Sac, WI; Martia Runde of Madison; Kim (Darren) Droessler of Kieler; five brothers, Dan “Buck” Runde of Rhineland, MO; Ray (Pattie) Runde of Fairwater, WI; Paul Runde of Lancaster, WI; Gerard “Gerry” Runde of Madison; and Alan (Jill) Runde of McFarland, WI; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
