Eric Paul Kass, 46, of Dodgeville, died on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from injuries sustained in a semi-tractor accident in Davenport, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2016 at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Belmont, WI. Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery where military rites will be accorded. Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a scripture wake service at 2:45 p.m.; friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Eric P. Kass Memorial Fund. Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Eric was born on February 5, 1970 in Dubuque, Iowa son of James P. and Patricia (Harry) Kass. He was united in marriage to Jennifer Miller on October 4, 1997 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Belmont. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1988. Eric served four years in the United States Army during Desert Storm. He worked for 25 years in Information Technology. He worked for many years at CDW, Madison. For the past year Eric drove for Schneider Trucking, Green Bay. Eric was an avid runner and ran a marathon in all 50 states, and ran two ultra-marathons. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dodgeville and the Marathon Maniacs. He was fluent in German, enjoyed computer gaming and traveling with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer of Dodgeville; three children, Owen and Gwendolyn of Dodgeville; Matthew of Fayetteville, TN; his mother, Patricia “Pat” Luedtke of Dubuque; sister, Elizabeth (Ron) Fritz of Dubuque; brothers, Bill (Dianne) Kass of Zimmerman, MN; James M. Kass of Dubuque; father and mother-in-law, Jerry and Joan Miller of Belmont, WI; brothers and sisters-in-law, Andy & Cappy Miller and Julia & Jason Brecker all of Belmont; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James in 2014 and grandparents, Jack and Cecelia Kass and Merville Harry and Marie Beverlin.

Jennifer, my deepest condolences. As you know, Eric and I share our birthday, 8-star Marathon Manic status, and 50 states finish. I had the privilege of running quite a few marathons with him. My heart breaks for you and your family. He was dearly loved for his quick smile and great personality. Hugs to you all.

To Jennifer, Owen, Gwen, and all of Eric's family - I am so very, very sorry to hear of Eric's death. He is a wonderful man, fun, likable, and I know how much he loved you guys. I'm shocked and stunned and don't have the right words, but I suppose there are no right words when someone is gone far too soon. I am shocked and sadded to hear of Eric's passing. I worked with Eric at CDW. What I will always remember is Eric's ear to ear grin that could light up the room. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family at this time.

We are sooo sorry for your loss Jennifer, Owen and Gwen. Your husband and father was much too young to leave all of you. May you feel God's love through all of your family and friends that care so much about you and your families. May you also find peace knowing Eric is now safe with God. Please know our hearts are hurting as well knowing all of you are going through this difficult time. We are unable to join you for services and feel very sad we cannot be there for you. Please know our prayers are extended.

Although we were only social media friends I remember Eric when he ran here locally. We talked about running and shared many of the same political views. I am sorry he is gone . I hope his family and friends can find comfort from knowing a good guy.
