Obituary

Jean S. Carns, 78, of Platteville, formerly of Potosi, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at University Hospitals & Clinics, Madison. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home, Platteville. Pastor Gary Ackland will officiate. Burial will be at British Hollow Cemetery, rural Potosi. Friends may call from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home, Platteville, or from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the Jean S. Jean was born on June 23, 1937 in Waterloo Twp., Grant County, the daughter of Edmund and Leila (Mayne) Salis. She was united in marriage to David “Butch” Carns on August 27, 1955 in Lancaster, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2014. Jean sold Mary Kay and Avon for quite some time; she also drove for social services. Jean was a very talented lady; she enjoyed cooking and baking and was famous for her specialty, “Jean's Beans.” In her later years she enjoyed doing crafts, she was always making something with her hot glue gun. She was a member of Potosi Bible Church. Jean and Butch enjoyed going out to eat, watching birds, and traveling. Jean is survived by; three children, Deb (special friend, Jeff Diebold) Carns of Cassville, WI; Terry (Carrie) Carns of Excelsior, MN; Gerry (Molly) Carns of Platteville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara Cupp of Platteville; brother-in-law, Richard “Gus” (Sharon) Carns of Bella Vista, AR; sister-in-law, Sandy Carns of Alamogordo, NM; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Wade on December 28, 2012; and brother, Rex (Marge) Salis.

I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of Aunt Jean. I have fond memories of Dave & Jean when I was a child & can see her sweet face smiling at me as clear as can be all these years later. My thoughts & prayers go out to you all!
