June Long

June A. Long, 90, of Platteville died on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Sienna Crest Assisted Living, Platteville. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2016 at Whig United Methodist Church, rural Platteville. Rev. Carson Culver will officiate. Burial will be at Whig Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. June was born on June 13, 1925 in Lafayette County, in the Welsh settlement, daughter of William D. and Mabel (Davis) Roberts. She was united in marriage to Thomas L. Long on November 23, 1946 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 23, 1998.

June worked for the City of Platteville for 30 years, in various positions within the water and sewer department, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Whig United Methodist Church, where she was very active in church activities. She enjoyed horses and was a member of the Wisconsin Harness Horse Association, Iowa County Horseman, and USTA (United States Trotting Association). June was a person who really enjoyed people.

She is survived by her two sons, Kevin (Ruthmary) Long and Kerry (Lily) Long all of Platteville; nine grandchildren, Jacob Long, Rebecca (Chad) Heller, Jason (Leslie) Long, Bethany (Mark) Lewis, Kelsey (Tim) Rahman, Brenna (Alex Jasper) Long, Nathaniel (Elizabeth) Marcum, Sam (Anne) Marcum and Leah (Jon) Fisher; ten great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Ruth Blankenberg and Agnes Long; brother-in-law, Bruce Collins and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
