Obituary

Helen Maxine (Jones) Jentz of Platteville, died on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at UW Hospital in Madison. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2016 at First English Lutheran Church, Platteville. Rev. Michael Short will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Friday. Memorials may be made to the Helen Maxine Jentz Memorial Fund. Helen was born August 7, 1932 in Smelser Township, Grant County to Dewey and Jennie (Steinhoff) Jones. She married Gilbert William Jentz on April 17, 1951 in Platteville. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1993.

She worked as a receptionist at Southwest Health Center for 20 years. She was a life-long member of First English Lutheran Church. Helen enjoyed traveling, crafts, & many types of puzzles and games. She was a charter member of the Eager Beaver Homemakers since 1957 and a card club since 1955. She was also enjoyed playing cards with her “Lunch Bunch” group.

Helen was also a charter member of the Grant County Genealogical Society & helped copy tombstone information from over 160 cemeteries in Grant County. She has served as the cemetery chairman since 1978, answering queries from all over the United States.
She is survived by three children, Christine (Bayard) Frederick of Fond du Lac; Susan (Jeff) Littlejohn of Lynden, WA; Daniel (Lucia) Jentz of Plano, TX; and seven grandchildren, Kendra Frederick-Bosco (Andy), Callie Hazen, Theran Frederick, Josh Littlejohn, Natalie Littlejohn, Austin Jentz and Brittini Jentz. Brothers & Sisters-in-law, Gene Jones, Ann Jones, Mervin & Helen Jentz, Rebecca Jentz, Betty Millard, Linda & Earl Hollenberger. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, Robert and Keith Jones.

Helen was a kind and loving aunt always with time for her nieces and nephews. She was married on my first birthday and her first daughter, Chris, was born on my third birthday, and I always felt a special connection and love for her and Gilbert.

Lots of love to all of Helen's family. Ray Martens is my dad - and they are first cousins. Helen and my dad [Buzz] graduated from Platteville high school in 1950, and Helen was always incredibly kind and generous to my dad and mom, and to us. She used to work the cashier window at the nursing home where my grandmother lived and died in the late 1970s and early 1980s, so we saw her often. I loved the days we spent looking at her family history records. We are so sorry we were unable to remember Helen with the whole family together. Know that you all have been in our prayers. We will miss her very much.
