Walter Hannan

Walter T. Hannan, 89, of Livingston, Wisconsin, died on Monday, June 27, 2016 at Manor Care, Platteville. Memorial Military Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2016 at Rock Church Cemetery, Livingston. Friends may call from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Memorials may be made to the Walter T. Hannan Memorial Fund. Walter was born on January 30, 1927 in Grant County, Wisconsin, son of Wesley E. and Hazel (Heathcote) Hannan. He was united in marriage to Beverly Tracy on June 8, 1952 at the Whig United Methodist Church, where this past June they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

Walter served in the United States Navy during WW II, 1944 -1946, where he enlisted in the Navy Electronics Technician program. Walter graduated from the Platteville Mining School and received his bachelor's degree from the Rolla School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri. He received his master's degree in Civil Engineering from UW-Madison, where he worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in Lancaster, WI. After receiving his master's degree he was a Professor of Civil Engineering at UW-Platteville for over 30 years, he also served as Director of Campus Planning. While teaching he also pursued his Doctorate Degree from Purdue University. He was an active member of the Platteville Jaycees where he was past president. Bev and Walter enjoyed many summers on the Mississippi River, fishing. He was also a director of the Falling Rock Walleye Club. Walter was an avid Packer and Badger fan.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bev of Livingston; three children, Kerry Hannan of Livingston, LeAnne Hannan of Madison; Kelly (Mary) Hannan of Bonfield, IL; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren with the 14th great-grandchild due in October. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant daughters and one sister, Mary Lou Popp.
