William Woods

William H. “Bill” Woods, Jr., 70, of Platteville, died on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Southwest Health Center, Platteville. Memorial services will be 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where military rites will be accorded by VFW Post #5274 and American Legion Post #42. Pastor Doug Tremelling will officiate. Burial will be at Mifflin Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Bill was born on March 19, 1946 in Beloit, Wisconsin, the son of William H. and Lillian (Lincy) Woods. He was united in marriage to Gloria Stanton on November 9, 1968 at the Primitive Methodist Church in Mifflin. She preceded him in death on August 8, 2015. Bill graduated from Iowa Grant High School in 1964. After high school he joined the United States Air Force and he served his country for four years. When Bill came home from the Air Force he worked at Nelson Muffler in Mineral Point, where he retired after 38 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, watching sports, especially the Brewers, and watching old westerns. Bill is survived by three children, Tim of Platteville, and his family, Abby and Parker; Daniel “Bucky” of Columbus, IN, and his family Colt and Brandon; Tina (Brian) Metz of Greenfield, WI, and their daughter, Cheyenne; siblings, Alice and Larry Ferrell of Oregon, WI; Diane (Maynard Geasland) Pilgrim of Belmont; Clayton and Pam Woods of Belmont; Grant and Sue Woods of Beloit; and Larry Luther of Arizona; as well as, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gloria; two sisters, Barb and Margaret; brother, Les; and nephew, Scott Simmons.
